Feature engineering of brain responses for BCI applications

by

Dilek Göksel Duru, PhD

About the Seminar: This talk will be about the design of the paradigm and the discrimination of ongoing brain activity occurring as a response to colour stimuli. We developed a classification approach by the use of specialized measurements to identify red, blue, and green colors using 1 s EEG data. I will represent the feature extraction and classification approaches used in the study specifically and report the achieved highly accurate results in the discrimination of brain responses.

About the Speaker: Dilek Göksel Duru completed her master's and doctoral studies in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Boğaziçi University. She has worked as a researcher in the FP7 European Union project namely ISUR, Intelligent SURgical Robotics Project, between 2011 and 2014. Since 2021, she is faculty member at the Turkish-German University in Bioinformatics at the Department of Molecular Biotechnology. Her research focuses on the fields of artificial intelligence, applied informatics, neuroengineering, machine and deep learning applications in medical sciences. She develops algorithms in the field of computational neuroscience and has international peer-reviewed journal publications and national/international projects in areas such as eye-tracking analysis, intelligent medical decision support systems, brain connectivity and mental workload. Since 2022, Dr. Dilek Göksel Duru is the PI of the project CLAREPA 'Classification of Resting State Networks ba sed on EEG-fNIRS recordings in portable applications', which has been entitled to be supported by D AAD and TÜBİTAK within the scope of International Bilateral Cooperation projects and has been working together with the Department of Neuroelectronics of the Technical University of Munich.
